KAJANG — A 12-month-old baby boy was killed while eight others were injured in a four-vehicle crash at the Bukit Kajang Toll Plaza here today.

The crash involved a three-tonne lorry carrying scrap items, a Nissan X-Trail four-wheel drive belonging to the Public Works Department (JKR), a Honda City and a Proton X70.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) operations assistant director Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said they received an emergency call at 11am.

“A team of six personnel from the Bangi Fire and Rescue Station rushed to the scene.

“We arrived about 11 minutes later and found a baby boy trapped under the Nissan X-Trail. He was freed at 11.30am but was pronounced dead by Health Ministry personnel,” he said in a statement.

Ahmad Mukhlis said a man who was also trapped under the same vehicle was rescued about 10 minutes earlier and sent to hospital for treatment.

“The other seven victims who suffered injuries were taken to hospital by Health Ministry paramedics before firefighters arrived,” he added.

Kajang police are expected to issue a statement soon.
