SEREMBAN — An inspection at the site of the tragic incident where a student fell into an uncovered sewage pit or manhole at a school in Lenggeng, Nilai, has found that the Small Sewage Treatment System (SSTS) is in good condition.
The Public Works Department (JKR), in a statement today, said that they were also informed by the police that the manhole cover taken for investigation was also found to be in good condition, without any defects.
“JKR takes the incident seriously and has dispatched a team to the site at 5.30 pm on the same day to assess the situation and conduct a preliminary investigation.
“JKR also sympathises and is deeply saddened by the incident that occurred at the school, which claimed the life of a nine-year-old child,” it said.
The department also advised the public to respect the ongoing investigation by authorities and assured full cooperation with the police to facilitate the investigation process.
Meanwhile, JKR also urged the public to remain vigilant and immediately report to them any complaints or damage to public assets that may pose a danger and threaten safety.
Last Saturday, Year Three pupil Abdul Fattah Khairol Rizal died after falling into an uncovered manhole at the school.
On Sunday, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said the Ministry of Education, together with the Negeri Sembilan Education Department (JPNS), has taken full responsibility to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident, and that further action would be taken immediately upon completion of the investigation to prevent a recurrence of similar incidents.
