IPOH — A police officer was killed and two others were injured in an accident involving two trailer lorries and a car at Kilometre 85.3 on the Kuala Kangsar–Pengkalan Hulu Road, near Kampung Tawai in Gerik, early today morning.

Gerik Police Chief Supt Abdul Samad Othman said the 1.50am incident involved a Mercedes-Benz lorry loaded with logs, a Scania cargo trailer carrying fertiliser, and a Toyota Vios car driven by the police officer.

“Preliminary investigations found that the fertiliser-laden trailer lorry, driven by a 23-year-old man from Kuala Kangsar heading towards Gerik, lost control before skidding and colliding with the right side of the log-loaded trailer driven by a 59-year-old man coming from the opposite direction.

“As a result of the collision, the fertiliser trailer veered into the opposite lane and struck the Toyota Vios driven by a 42-year-old police officer from the Gerik District Police Headquarters,” he said in a statement today.

He said that the police officer was confirmed dead at the scene, and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
