SEGAMAT — The expansion of the Electric Train Service 3 (ETS3) to Johor Bahru, which is in the final phase of preparation, is expected to enhance public transport mobility access and the tourism sector in Johor ahead of Visit Malaysia 2026, said Transport Minister Anthony Loke.
He said the new service, scheduled to operate by mid-December at the latest, is also seen as being capable of supporting the increase in tourist numbers in conjunction with Visit Johor 2026.
“So, we are still looking for a suitable date because some final preparations need to be finalised, but the ETS service to Johor Bahru will start no later than mid-December.
“So, this is an additional mode of transport in Johor, and I am confident it can also help the tourism sector in Johor, especially in secondary towns and small towns like Segamat, Labis, Kluang and Kulai,” he said.
According to him, all aspects of technical work are being completed before ticket prices are announced soon.
The ETS route, which previously ended in Gemas, Negeri Sembilan, is now extended south to Johor Bahru, covering major stops in Segamat, Kluang and Kulai before terminating at the Johor Bahru Sentral Station, thus completing the west coast railway line of the Peninsula.
