KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 10 — The 2025/2026 Northeast Monsoon (MTL) is expected to begin this Thursday (Nov 13) and continue until March next year, with five to seven episodes of continuous heavy rain predicted to occur during the period.
Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) director-general Dr Mohd Hisham Mohd Anip said prolonged heavy rain over several days could lead to flooding, particularly in areas near rivers and low-lying regions.
“Strong and continuous northeasterly winds during this period may also cause rough seas and an increased risk of sea level rise in the South China Sea,” he said in a statement today.
He advised the public to remain vigilant and prepared for potential heavy rain episodes throughout the monsoon season by regularly following weather updates, forecasts and warnings issued via MetMalaysia’s official website, the myCuaca mobile application, the department’s social media channels, or by contacting the hotline at 1-300-22-1638.
