Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stated today that the actual amount of public funds lost to leakages and fraud is far higher than the RM15.5 billion recovered so far. Speaking at an event in Cyberjaya, he stressed that while law enforcement agencies have done a commendable job, much more work remains to be done to save public funds. He emphasized that the government is not yet convinced that all leakages have been plugged.

Anwar highlighted that collective efforts from the MACC, the police, and the Customs Department have been pivotal in the recent recovery of funds. He noted that these resources are being redirected toward public welfare and national development projects. The Prime Minister's stance reinforces his administration's ongoing focus on transparency and governance.

The statement has sparked discussions in the Dewan Rakyat regarding the efficiency of current monitoring systems. Opposition leaders have called for more detailed reports on where the leakages originated. Meanwhile, the government plans to further strengthen anti-corruption laws to prevent future misappropriation of national wealth.
