The Sabah Karate Association (SKA) has announced that it will be sending its strongest contingent yet to the first edition of the National Karate Kata U14, Cadet, Junior, and Senior Championships. The event, held at the Bukit Jalil Karate Training Centre, is seen as a vital stepping stone for young martial artists in the state to showcase their skills on a national platform.
This announcement comes shortly after Sabah's para-athletes secured an impressive 10 gold medals at the 13th ASEAN Para Games, exceeding their initial targets. The karate team hopes to build on this momentum and bring more silverware back to East Malaysia. The coaching staff has been focusing on refining the 'kata' forms, which require immense discipline and precision.
Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Joachim Gunsalam has praised the athletes for their dedication, emphasizing that sports are a platform for shaping character and discipline among students. The tournament in Bukit Jalil is expected to attract top talent from all states, making it one of the most competitive karate events of the year.
