Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim hosted Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Seri Perdana Complex today for a high-level bilateral meeting. The visit, which is Modi's first to Malaysia since 2015, focuses on elevating the relationship between the two nations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
The discussions primarily centered on expanding cooperation in digital finance, semiconductors, and renewable energy. Both leaders expressed a shared commitment to regional stability in the Indo-Pacific and discussed ways to simplify trade settlements using local currencies to reduce dependency on the US dollar.
Following the formal talks, PM Modi is scheduled to meet with representatives of the Malaysian Indian community in Kuala Lumpur. This visit is seen as a major milestone in Malaysia’s foreign policy, reinforcing its position as a key bridge between South Asia and the ASEAN region.
