The government is finalizing plans to ban the sale of subsidized packaged cooking oil to non-citizens starting March 1, 2026. Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan confirmed that the MyKad-based digital ecosystem (successfully used for BUDI95 petrol subsidies) will likely be integrated with the eCOSS system. This would allow Malaysians to verify their identity at the point of sale, preventing leakages and smuggling that currently cost the government millions.
Meanwhile, the situation in East Malaysia has turned critical. Continuous heavy rain has forced the opening of the Pangi Hydro Dam gates, causing the Padas River in Beaufort to swell to 9.63 meters. As of this morning, 445 people have been evacuated to relief centers, and nine schools remain closed. Rescue teams are currently using boats to transport STPM exam invigilators to centers that have become inaccessible by road.
