A coalition of five European governments, including the United Kingdom, has released a joint statement asserting that Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny was poisoned with a rare dart frog toxin while in prison two years ago. The findings, based on new forensic analysis of samples taken from Navalny's body, directly challenge the Kremlin's official account of his death. The UK Foreign Office stated there is "no innocent explanation" for the presence of the toxin, which causes rapid paralysis and cardiac arrest.

The timing of the announcement has been characterized by analysts as a deliberate move to increase diplomatic pressure on Moscow during a period of heightened regional tension. European leaders are calling for further sanctions against Russian officials involved in the prison system, labeling the use of such a rare biological agent as a clear indication of state-sponsored assassination. The revelation has reignited global protests against the Russian government's treatment of political dissidents.

Russia has vehemently denied the allegations, dismissing the reports as "absurd fabrications" and accusing Western intelligence agencies of manipulating scientific data. Despite the denial, the international community has largely rallied behind the findings, with several world leaders at the recent Munich Security Conference discussing "de-risking" their diplomatic ties with Russia further. The report marks one of the most specific forensic claims made against the Russian state regarding the treatment of its high-profile prisoners.
