Venezuela made history in Miami last night by defeating the United States 3-2 to win their first-ever World Baseball Classic (WBC) championship. Eugenio Suárez delivered the decisive blow with a tiebreaking double in the ninth inning, driving in pinch-runner Javier Sanoja after Team USA had tied the game in the eighth on a dramatic two-run homer by Bryce Harper. Venezuela's pitching staff was exceptional, with starter Eduardo Rodríguez and closer Daniel Palencia silencing one of the most powerful lineups in the tournament's history to secure the historic win at loanDepot park.

Maikel Garcia was named the Classic MVP for his consistent performance throughout the tournament, which included a sacrifice fly in the third inning of the final that gave Venezuela its initial lead. Venezuela's path to the title was dominant, finishing with a 6-1 record and outscoring their opponents 43-21 overall. This victory marks the first time Venezuela has reached a WBC final and they now become the fourth nation to claim the championship trophy in the event's history.

Fans in Miami created an electric atmosphere, with a sold-out crowd of 36,490 witnessing the late-inning drama. Venezuela’s victory also followed a massive quarterfinal upset where they eliminated the defending champions, Japan. The 2026 WBC final is being hailed as an instant classic, reflecting the growing global popularity and competitive parity of international baseball.
