A tragic incident unfolded this morning in Kampung Segaliud, Kinabatangan, when a young boy named Rayyan Abdullah was snatched by a crocodile while fishing for prawns. The boy's father was reportedly present and watched in horror as the predator attacked and dragged his son into the water, unable to intervene. Local villagers and authorities immediately launched a search and rescue operation, which is currently ongoing along the riverbanks.

Search efforts are being hampered by the dense vegetation and the known presence of several large crocodiles in the area. This attack has sent shockwaves through the local community, as the river is a primary source of food and livelihood for many families in the district. Authorities have issued an urgent warning to residents to stay away from the water's edge and to avoid fishing activities until the threat can be managed.

Wildlife experts from the Sabah Wildlife Department are expected to join the search to assist in tracking the crocodile involved. Similar incidents have been reported in the region previously, prompting calls for more proactive crocodile population management in Kinabatangan. As of this afternoon, there has been no sign of the young boy, and the community remains on high alert.
