The 2026 Academy Award nominations were announced today, with the vampire blockbuster Sinners breaking historical records by securing 16 nominations. The film, which has been a critical and commercial juggernaut, is nominated in every major category, including Best Picture and Best Director. This marks a significant milestone for the genre and the highest number of nominations for a single film since All About Eve, Titanic, and La La Land.

The "Best Actor" category has become a major talking point as co-stars Timothée Chalamet and Michael B. Jordan will compete against each other for their performances in Sinners. Other notable nominees include Paul Thomas Anderson's latest political thriller, which dominated the earlier BAFTA awards, and newcomer Robert Aramayo, who stunned the industry by securing a Best Actor nod.

While the nominations have brought excitement, there is also controversy in Hollywood as Ready or Not 2: Here I Come faces critical backlash for its updated plot, and Emerald Fennell's Wuthering Heights remake starring Margot Robbie is being labeled a "misfiring" gothic drama. Despite these mixed reviews for other titles, the 2026 Oscars are set to be a massive event, even as viewership numbers showed a slight 9% dip from the previous year.
