In a setback for the national badminton squad, star shuttler and Paris 2024 Olympic bronze medalist Lee Zii Jia has been forced to postpone his return to official training with the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM). Zii Jia was scheduled to begin a dedicated training block today, April 1, 2026, as part of the country's intensive preparations for the upcoming Thomas Cup Finals, set to take place in Horsens, Denmark, later this month. However, a minor injury sustained during a recent training session has sidelined the professional player, as confirmed by BAM President Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz.

This delay comes at a critical time as the national team aims to build cohesion and competitive form for the prestigious world men's team championship. Zii Jia, who has faced an injury-hit season that saw his world ranking slip significantly, was looking to use this stint to regain his physical and mental rhythm alongside the national elite squad. The coaching team remains optimistic that the injury is not severe, but they have opted for a cautious approach to ensure he is at peak fitness before he travels to Europe.

The medical team is currently monitoring Zii Jia's recovery, with a revised reporting date expected to be announced once he receives full clearance. For now, the rest of the national squad, including top doubles pairs, continues their preparations under the watchful eye of the BAM technical directors. Fans and analysts alike are hopeful that Malaysia’s premier singles player can recover in time to lead the charge in Denmark, as his presence is considered vital to the country’s chances of ending its long title drought in the Thomas Cup.
