Reigning NL Cy Young winner Paul Skenes returned to elite form on Wednesday, leading the Pittsburgh Pirates to an 8-3 victory over the Cincinnati Reds. Skenes allowed only one run over five innings while striking out five batters, quickly bouncing back from a career-shortest start earlier in the week. His dominant performance reinforces his position as the centerpiece of the Pirates' rotation for the 2026 campaign. 

Elsewhere in MLB action, the St. Louis Cardinals secured a dramatic 2-1 victory over the New York Mets thanks to a walk-off bloop single by Masyn Winn in the 11th inning. The win gave the Cardinals their second consecutive series victory to start the season. Meanwhile, the Oakland Athletics finally broke into the win column for the first time in 2026 with a victory over the Atlanta Braves. 

Other notable highlights included a complete-game shutout by Sandy Alcantara and an incredible home run robbery by Denzel Clarke. The New York Yankees have also continued their hot start, moving to a 5-1 record.
