The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) has confirmed that the race for the final singles spot in the upcoming Uber Cup Finals is still undecided. While the men's team is focused on the Thomas Cup in Horsens, Denmark, the women's team is evaluating candidates like Siti Zulaikha Azmi and Oo Shan Zi. The final decision is expected soon as the team aims to clear the group stage for the first time in 16 years.
Malaysia has been drawn into Group B alongside Japan, Turkiye, and South Africa. Experts suggest that Malaysia has its best chance since 2010 to reach the quarterfinals, provided the squad remains injury-free. Key players already confirmed for the women’s singles list include K. Letshanaa, Wong Ling Ching, and Goh Jin Wei, who will lead the national challenge.
Meanwhile, on the men's side, coach Kenneth Jonassen is providing Lee Zii Jia the necessary time to rediscover his form following recent injury concerns. The National Sports Institute (NSI) and Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM) are closely monitoring the situation to ensure a competitive squad for the finals scheduled from April 24 to May 3.
