The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has officially locked in the dates for its final two ceremonies on traditional broadcast television. According to reports from the Shepparton News, the 99th Oscars will be held on March 14, 2027, and the milestone 100th Oscars on March 5, 2028. These will be the last shows aired on ABC before the Academy transitions to a digital-first broadcast model on YouTube starting in 2029.

This historic shift includes a change in physical location, with the ceremony moving from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood to the Peacock Theatre in downtown Los Angeles. The 10 year agreement with AEG marks a significant transformation for the prestigious awards show as it seeks to engage younger, digitally native audiences. The move follows a period of fluctuating ratings, including a nine per cent dip for the 98th Oscars, despite a star studded lineup and popular best picture winners like One Battle After Another.

The transition to YouTube is being viewed as a bold move to modernize the "biggest night in Hollywood." While some traditionalists expressed concern over the loss of a network TV home, Academy leaders emphasized the need to adapt to changing viewership habits. The 2027 and 2028 ceremonies are expected to be grand "farewell tours" for the Dolby Theatre, celebrating a century of cinematic excellence before the new era begins.
