The 2026 Masters Tournament officially began today at Augusta National, with Rory McIlroy returning as the defending champion. McIlroy is aiming to become only the fourth player in history to win consecutive Green Jackets, starting his round alongside other top contenders like Scottie Scheffler and Jon Rahm. Early leaderboards show a highly competitive field, with fans eager to see if the world No. 1 can hold three majors simultaneously.

Off the course, the golfing world is focused on Tiger Woods, who notably is not competing this year. Woods pleaded not guilty in his driving under the influence (DUI) case in Florida last week following a rollover SUV crash, and prosecutors are currently moving to subpoena his prescription drug records. Despite his absence, the tournament remains a massive draw, featuring a 91-player field navigating the flowering azaleas and towering pines of Georgia.

Today's opening round features star studded groupings, including honorary starters Gary Player and Jack Nicklaus signaling the start of the year's first major. As the players navigate the par 72 course, all eyes are on the "Amen Corner" to see who will emerge with the lead heading into the weekend.
