Tensions in West Asia are driving a global energy crisis, prompting Southeast Asian nations to fortify their fuel security. Thailand has reported maintaining 109 days of oil reserves to buffer against potential supply shocks. Meanwhile, Vietnam is grappling with surging inflation which reached 3.63% in the first quarter largely due to high transportation costs triggered by the conflict.

To assist vulnerable sectors, the Singaporean government announced it would cover 13% of fare revenues for school bus and care transport operators to offset rising fuel costs. In Myanmar, officials are banking on increased natural gas production from the Maubin (South) field to stabilize domestic energy needs amid persistent shortages.

These economic pressures are being felt worldwide, with the ASEAN Connectivity Fund recently launching a US$25 million initiative to improve regional energy resilience. Analysts from platforms like Bernama note that food and energy security have become the top priorities for small nations navigating this period of external shocks.
