The prestigious Borneo Sevens Rugby Tournament 2026 officially kicks off today at the Eagles Rugby Club Stadium in Sandakan. Known as "The Greenest 7s in the World," this year's edition features 14 teams from eight countries, including Australia, Belgium, and Kazakhstan. The two day tournament will culminate in the finals tomorrow, April 12.

In the men's division, local hopes are pinned on the Borneo Eagles and the Malaysian University squad as they face international competition from teams like Uzbekistan Rugby and Australia's Nationwide Nadi 7s. The tournament serves as a high intensity showcase for regional talent and is expected to draw significant crowds to the Eagles Rugby Club.

The event highlights Sabah's growing reputation as a hub for international sports, following announcements of other major events in the state, such as the upcoming WBC Featherweight Title bout featuring Sabah’s own Khairul "King Azim" Hamdain in May.
