A federal counsel informed the High Court today that the Discharge Not Amounting to Acquittal (DNAA) granted to Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was strictly in accordance with the law. The counsel argued that the prosecution exercised its discretionary power under Article 145(3) of the Federal Constitution to halt the proceedings. This statement was made during a judicial review challenge brought by an NGO questioning the transparency of the decision made by the Attorney General's Chambers.

The ruling has been a point of significant political contention, with critics arguing it undermines the judiciary's independence. However, the federal counsel maintained that the move was necessary to allow for further investigations into new evidence that had surfaced. The court has set a future date to hear further submissions, while the public remains closely focused on how this case impacts the government's broader anti-corruption narrative.
