Prasarana Malaysia Berhad has announced an increase in train frequencies for the LRT, MRT, and Monorail lines starting today to accommodate several large-scale events in the Klang Valley. This adjustment is specifically aimed at managing the surge of commuters heading to the Bukit Jalil National Stadium and the Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC) for weekend festivities. Commuters are advised to use Touch 'n Go cards or digital payment methods to avoid long queues at token machines.
The move comes after recent feedback regarding congestion during peak weekend hours when public events coincide. By reducing waiting times to just 3 to 5 minutes during peak periods, Rapid KL hopes to encourage more people to leave their cars at home, thereby reducing traffic gridlock in the city. Additional auxiliary police and station staff have also been deployed to assist with crowd control and ensure passenger safety at high traffic hubs like Masjid Jamek and KL Sentral.
Beyond the trains, Rapid KL is also increasing the number of feeder buses serving residential hubs to ensure a seamless "first and last mile" connection. This operational shift is part of a broader "Go Green" initiative to promote sustainable urban mobility among city dwellers. Passengers are encouraged to check the Pulse app for real-time updates on train locations and any potential service announcements throughout the weekend.
