Cheras police chief Mohd Rosdi Daud confirmed the successful rescue of a 36-year-old Chinese national who had been held captive since April 17. The victim was discovered during a 9 p.m. raid on Friday at an Airbnb unit in Jalan Peel, where he was being used as a "guarantor" for a friend’s RM100,000 gambling debt. After the friend fled, the victim was detained for three days as leverage to force repayment of the debt.

During the operation, police arrested two local men, both aged 30, at the scene and seized house keys, access cards, and mobile phones. The suspects have been remanded for three days while investigators search for the main mastermind who remains at large. The case is being investigated under Section 342 of the Penal Code for wrongful confinement.

This rescue is part of a broader crackdown on crime in the area, following a related incident on April 8, where a Chinese national was arrested as the primary suspect in a violent riot and vandalism case at a Cheras entertainment outlet.
