A 53-year-old express bus driver has been remanded for four days after a viral video showed him driving in a highly dangerous manner. The footage, which circulated widely on social media, depicted the driver with his seat fully reclined and his hands off the steering wheel while the bus was in motion on a highway. Following the report, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) tracked down the driver and conducted a drug test, which returned positive for methamphetamine.

The bus operator, Billion Stars Express, has officially suspended the driver and issued a public apology for the incident. The Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) is now considering stricter penalties against the company, including the potential suspension of its operating license. This case has reignited public debate regarding the safety standards of long-distance public transport and the frequency of mandatory drug screenings for commercial drivers.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke commented on the incident today, stating that there is "zero tolerance" for such behavior that puts dozens of lives at risk. The Ministry of Transport is expected to announce a new set of digital monitoring requirements for express buses, which would allow authorities to track driver behavior in real time. For now, the suspect remains in custody as investigators prepare a formal charge under the Road Transport Act 1987.
