Datuk Azizulhasni Awang has announced a significant shift in his racing strategy as he prepares for the upcoming international track cycling event in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan. Recognizing that he is in the "autumn" of his illustrious career, the two-time Olympic medallist is moving away from purely explosive power toward a more cerebral, tactical approach. Azizulhasni noted that at this stage, his focus is on "racing smarter, not just harder," utilizing his vast experience to outmanoeuvre younger, physically stronger opponents on the track.

The decision to adapt comes after close consultation with national head coach John Beasley, focusing on energy conservation throughout multi-heat tournaments. Azizulhasni’s new blueprint involves more precise positioning in the Keirin and Sprint events, aiming to dictate the pace of the race from the front rather than relying solely on a final lap dash. This evolution is seen as essential for maintaining a competitive edge while managing his physical recovery in what is expected to be one of his final high-level competitions before retirement.

The upcoming races in Nilai hold immense emotional weight, as they offer Malaysian fans a rare chance to see the legend compete in person before he officially hangs up his wheels. Azizulhasni has expressed a deep desire to leave a lasting legacy for the next generation of Malaysian cyclists who are currently training alongside him at the National Velodrome. As he transitions into this new phase, his goal remains clear: to prove that veteran guile can still triumph over youth on the world stage.
