The Visit Melaka Year 2026 campaign has reported a record-breaking surge in international tourist arrivals during the first quarter of the year. Popular heritage sites such as Jonker Walk, the A Famosa fort, and the Stadthuys have seen a significant increase in visitors, particularly from China, Singapore, and Europe. This influx has provided a major boost to the local economy, with hotels and traditional homestays reporting nearly 90% occupancy rates over the recent holiday weekends.

To further enhance the visitor experience, the Melaka State Government has introduced new eco tourism trails and night market festivals that showcase the state's unique Peranakan and Portuguese heritage. Local artisans and trishaw riders have also undergone specialized training to provide better historical insights to tourists. The state's efforts to digitalize the tourism experience through the "Smart Melaka" app, which provides real-time updates on crowd levels and shuttle bus schedules, have been highly praised by international travel bloggers.

However, the surge in tourism has also brought challenges, particularly regarding traffic congestion in the UNESCO World Heritage zone. Local authorities are currently experimenting with "pedestrian only" zones on weekends to improve safety and air quality in the historic center. Looking ahead, the state plans to host a series of international food and cultural festivals throughout the remainder of 2026 to maintain the momentum of the tourism recovery.
