The Malaysian Football League (MFL) First Instance Body (FIB) has officially confirmed that seven clubs completed their documentation for the 2026-2027 club licensing cycle ahead of the April 30 deadline. The clubs meeting the requirements include powerhouse Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT), Selangor FC, Sabah, Terengganu, Penang, Kuching City, and Negri Sembilan. These licenses are critical as they determine a club's eligibility to compete in both national leagues and Asian Football Confederation (AFC) continental competitions.

Terengganu’s submission came as a relief to fans after earlier uncertainty regarding their financial budget for the upcoming season. Meanwhile, several other clubs, including Kuala Lumpur and Melaka, have requested additional time to finalize their documents due to complex legal or financial adjustments. In the regional stage, the MFL confirmed that JDT and Selangor will represent Malaysia in the prestigious ASEAN Club Championship 2025/26, also known as the Shopee Cup.

On the international front, the FA of Malaysia (FAM) is currently dealing with a heavy fine of approximately USD 440,000 from FIFA. The sanction follows an investigation into forged documents used for naturalized players in previous Asian Cup qualifiers. As legal proceedings continue, the AFC has ruled that Malaysia will not be allowed to field seven specific suspended players in the 2027 Asian Cup Qualifiers until the case reaches a final verdict in court.
