UMNO Deputy President Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan emphasized the need for the party to adopt a more flexible and dynamic strategy during his speech at the UMNO 80th Anniversary Convention today. He noted that the political landscape in Malaysia is rapidly shifting, requiring a departure from old, static election methods. The convention focused on preparing the party leadership and grassroots for the upcoming state elections and the eventual 16th General Election (GE16).
The Deputy President highlighted that voter behavior is changing, and the party must remain relevant by addressing current issues that resonate with the younger generation. He stressed that unity within the party is paramount to regaining the trust of the public. Leaders from various wings were urged to strengthen their machinery and improve their communication strategies to better reach the masses nationwide.
The event, held at the World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur, was attended by top party leadership, including President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. Discussions also touched upon the party's role within the current government coalition and how to maintain a strong identity while working with partners. The convention is seen as a critical launching pad for UMNO's roadmap toward political stability and electoral success.
