The Rain Rave Water Music Festival 2026, held in Bukit Bintang, has become a major point of political and religious debate in Malaysia. Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng defended the event today, arguing that it is a lawful activity that provides a significant boost to the local economy and tourism sector. He stated that the festival is part of the broader Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign aimed at attracting international visitors.

However, the festival has faced fierce opposition from the Federal Territories' religious department (JAWI) and several political youth wings. Critics argue that the event, which involves large crowds and water-themed celebrations, does not align with local religious and cultural sensitivities. This has led to calls for stricter guidelines on the types of entertainment allowed in public spaces, particularly in the heart of the capital.

Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has stepped in, calling for a comprehensive review of the event's approval process. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that future festivals are curated to respect Malaysia's societal norms and values. While the organizers maintain that all permits were obtained legally, the government is looking to balance economic interests with cultural preservation moving forward.
