Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo has confirmed that the National Artificial Intelligence (AI) Action Plan 2026-2030 is currently in its final stages of fine-tuning and is expected to be officially launched in the third quarter of this year. The comprehensive policy aims to bridge the significant talent gap in Malaysia's tech sector by integrating AI education into STEM curricula and providing incentives for local companies to adopt automated solutions. The plan is a cornerstone of Malaysia's ambition to become a digital hub within the ASEAN region by the end of the decade.
The ministry is working closely with international tech giants, including a new strategic partnership with Vietnam, to share expertise in digital economy frameworks and cybersecurity. Government officials believe that a structured AI roadmap will attract billions in foreign direct investment, particularly in data centers and high-tech manufacturing. As part of this digital push, the government also recently announced that the next generation of MyKad will feature 53 advanced security elements, though it will no longer include the legacy Touch 'n Go functionality.
