Bleecker Street's gothic horror satire Victorian Psycho made its grand world premiere at the 79th Cannes Film Festival, screening to a rapturous seven minute standing ovation in the Un Certain Regard section. Directed by Zachary Wigon, the 90 minute film is adapted from the bestselling novel by Virginia Feito, who also penned the screenplay. It is produced by the team behind the horror hit Longlegs, positioning "Scream Queen" Maika Monroe in her most unpredictable role yet.

Set in 1858, the story follows an eccentric young governess named Winifred Notty (Monroe) as she arrives at the remote Ensor House to tutor the aristocratic Pounds family. While she seamlessly educates the children on table manners, she is actively hiding severe, bloodthirsty psychopathic compulsions. As Winifred assimilates into the estate, staff members begin mysteriously vanishing, causing the wealthy owners played by Jason Isaacs and Ruth Wilson to question her bizarre behavior.

Early critical reviews hail Monroe's performance as gloriously gonzo, noting her mastery over physical chills, pitch black dark humor, and unhinged facial twitches. The film blends traditional gothic, candlelit set designs with lush, violent imagery that underscores themes of patriarchal rebellion and class warfare. The psychological horror-comedy is officially scheduled to hit global and domestic commercial movie theaters on Friday, September 25, 2026.
