On Monday, the makers of Suriya's next, Vishwanath & Sons, announced that the first single promo will be unveiled on June 17. The makers made the announcement along with a small promo video, featuring the film's music composer GV Prakash and Mamitha Baiju, hinting at the latter's debut as a singer.
The video features GV Prakash on the phone with Venky Atluri, telling him that he is yet to lock the singer for the first single. The director then says he's sending the right person over to the composer's studio, only for him to find Mamitha Baiju at the doorstep. Although initially sceptical, GV Prakash gets ready to record the song in Mamitha's voice.
However, the promo eventually reveals that the makers were referencing the online trolling Mamitha received after her singing performance at Jana Nayagan’s audio launch. She is seen vehemently denying the opportunity to sing, saying that she was only at the studio to dance for the song, which is her strong suit. We are yet to learn who the composer chose to present the film's first single.
Vishwanath & Sons revolves around Sanjay Vishwanath (Suriya), an ace pistol shooter in his 40s struggling to retain his agility and focus. When Maddy (Mamitha Baiju), a young woman in her 20s, falls head over heels in love with him despite his pushback over their age gap, their relationship becomes complicated.
Apart from Suriya and Mamitha Baiju, the film also stars Radikaa Sarathkumar, Bhavani Sre and senior Bollywood actor Raveena Tandon in key roles. It is to be noted that Raveena Tandon is acting in a Tamil film after 24 years, with her last project being Kamal Haasan's Aalavandhan (2001).
GV Prakash is reuniting with Venky Atluri for the third time after Vaathi (2023) and Lucky Baskhar (2024). This is also the composer's second film with Suriya after Soorarai Pottru (2020). The technical crew also includes editor Navin Nooli and cinematographer Nimish Ravi.
Naga Vamsi is producing the film under his Sithara Entertainments banner in association with Sai Soujanya's Fortune Four Cinemas. The film is scheduled to open in theatres on August 14.
