KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 12 — Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) intends to construct a fourth runway and multiple new terminals at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) located in Sepang, Selangor.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook stated that the proposal is one of the long-term solutions to handle the continually rising number of flight passengers.
“This proposal, among other aspects, includes raising the capacity of KLIA T1 from 30 million passengers per year (mppa) to 59 mppa, and augmenting KLIA T2’s capacity from 45 mppa to 67 mppa, while also contemplating the development of a fourth runway and T3 (the new Terminal 3) at KLIA going forward,” he stated in a written parliamentary response yesterday.
Loke was replying to Pakatan Harapan’s Bukit Bintang MP Fong Kui Lun, who inquired about the government’s short and long-term strategies for Malaysia’s primary gateway to cater to air travellers' needs.
The minister mentioned the self check-in kiosk and the extra 20 immigration autogate clearances as part of the short-term measures implemented.
The longterm plans involve constructing a Private Premium Terminal, specifically designed for passengers who wish to obtain premium service status at the airport.
