KUALA LUMPUR — A police inspector has earned praise from the Inspector General of Police for rejecting a RM50,000 bribe during a diesel smuggling operation in Selangor. Inspector Mohd Tarmizi Said, 40, stood firm against the bribe, demonstrating his commitment to integrity and the values of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).
Despite the temptation, Mohd Tarmizi arrested the individual attempting the bribe, leading to the suspect’s conviction and prison sentence. He emphasized that rejecting the bribe was simply part of his duty, essential for maintaining the police force’s good name.
The officer was among 200 personnel honored at a ceremony for their integrity and bravery, where IGP Tan Sri Razarudin Husain highlighted the importance of recognizing the force’s honorable actions to improve public perception.
Another honoree, Lance Corporal Christopher Lawai Johny, 30, shared his experience of recovering from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident while on duty during last year’s Mahkota state by-election in Johor. Despite a broken hand, he remains committed to his role in the force.
