KUALA LUMPUR: The process of securing a Malaysian passport for a mixed-heritage football player from the Netherlands is in its final stages.

Harimau Malaya CEO Rob Friend is optimistic that the process would be completed before the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers, which begin in March.

"Having a wider selection pool with these mixed-heritage players will significantly boost our aspirations of taking Harimau Malaya to the next level," said Friend in a statement on Tuesday.

Friend also highlighted the FA of Malaysia's (FAM) commitment to nurturing domestic players at all levels.
