"KUALA LUMPUR — The Malaysia Singapore Coffeeshop Proprietors’ General Association (MSCSPGA) has urged the government to delay the deadline for the tobacco display ban, citing financial strain on business owners.

Set to begin on April 1, 2025, under the Control of Smoking Products for Public Health Act 2024, the ban will restrict the display of tobacco products at sales points.

MSCSPGA President Wong Teu Hoon explained that the recent minimum wage hike and rising business costs, including rent and utilities, have already placed significant pressure on coffee shop operators.

The new ban adds further burden, requiring businesses to modify shelves, invest in storage, and train staff for compliance. MSCSPGA is calling for a delay in implementation and financial assistance to help small businesses adjust to these changes.

Representing over 20,000 members, MSCSPGA continues to support the tobacco control law’s aims but stresses the need for more time and support to ease the transition."
