"KULAI — The Ministry of Communications is increasingly concerned about the rise of fake social media accounts, including those impersonating the King, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim. Deputy Minister Teo Nie Ching stated that while the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has provided Meta with URLs to remove these fake accounts, the issue continues to affect other prominent figures, such as Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Teo emphasized the seriousness of the issue, calling it an unhealthy trend driven by certain agendas. She expressed disappointment that platforms like Meta have not taken stronger action to prevent such accounts, which often lure the public into online scams.
Teo also highlighted MCMC’s initiative, the Artificial Intelligence Fact-check Assistant (AIFA), which helps Malaysians verify online information to combat cyber threats. AIFA, which has already received over 57,000 queries since its launch in January, aims to educate the public on verifying information to reduce the spread of fake news and scams."
