JAKARTA: Torrential rains flooded Jakarta and nearby cities, forcing hundreds to evacuate. The Ciliwung River overflowed, submerging entire neighbourhoods in muddy water. While no casualties were reported, flooding affected areas in east and south Jakarta, as well as Bogor, Bekasi, and Tangerang. Over 1,400 people were impacted in one village, and residents in some areas sought refuge on rooftops. Authorities are providing aid and using boats for evacuations. Jakarta’s low-lying geography makes it vulnerable to floods during the wet season.
