BANGI: Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has warned political leaders, regardless of race, against exploiting religious issues for personal gain. He stressed that the government would take legal action against anyone who stirs up race, religion, or royalty (3R) issues, threatening national harmony.

Anwar emphasized that leaders who exploit such issues risk destroying the nation. This warning came after a controversy involving three DJs who mocked the kavadi ritual, leading to their suspension and police investigation. Independent preacher Zamri Vinoth also sparked anger by claiming Hindu worshippers performing the ritual appeared "possessed and drunk on toddy." Politicians, including MIC deputy president M Saravanan, called for action against Zamri under the Security Offences Act (Sosma) and the Penal Code for provoking public mischief and breaches of peace.
