KUALA LUMPUR: A Malaysian man has been sentenced to 18 weeks in jail after secretly filming his female tenant using a hidden mini camera in the bathroom of their shared rental flat in Singapore.
According to the news portal Mothership, Jason Zhang, 42, who had sublet rooms in the Housing & Development Board flat he rented with his wife, installed the hidden camera in November 2023 to spy on one of his female tenants.
The camera was positioned to capture footage of the washbasin, toilet, and shower area.
The victim only discovered the device when Zhang, a Singapore permanent resident, attached a power bank to extend its battery life, causing it to dangle under the sink.
Upon checking the memory card, she was shocked to find recordings of herself.
She immediately deleted the footage and left the camera and power bank in the kitchen.
Investigations revealed that Zhang specifically targeted this tenant, deleting recordings of the other three housemates.
He would set up the camera between 6pm and 7pm, timing it for when she returned home from work.
Authorities later retrieved six videos from his memory card and phone, with each clip lasting between 10 and 30 minutes.
