WASHINGTON — President Trump’s administration has deployed 700 US Marines and up to 4,000 National Guard troops to Los Angeles amid ongoing immigration protest unrest, drawing fierce backlash from California Governor Gavin Newsom.
The Marines, from Camp Pendleton, were ordered to assist federal agents, marking a rare use of active-duty forces in a civilian area. The Pentagon also confirmed another 2,000 National Guard troops would be federally activated to support ICE operations.
Governor Newsom, not consulted on the move, called the decision “deranged” and accused Trump of trying to provoke chaos. The deployment comes as protests in LA enter their fourth day.
