Singer Naim Daniel pleads not guilty to sexual assault charge involving teenager

Singer and actor Naim Daniel, 28, pleaded not guilty today in the Sessions Court to a charge of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl at a Petaling Jaya hotel on May 19.The case, heard behind closed doors before Judge Datin M. Kunasundary, involves an offence under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which carries up to 20 years’ jail and whipping upon conviction.Naim, whose full name is Muhammad Naim Daniel Baharin, was granted RM12,000 bail with one surety and ordered to surrender his passport. The court set August 18 for case mention.He was represented by lawyers Mohd Irwan Sumadi and Datuk Amirul Ridzuan Hanif, while Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Izzah Shaharuddin led the prosecution.The arrest of a popular singer in connection with the alleged assault was first reported on June 4.
