The National AI Office (Naio) will submit its recommendations on AI legislation to the Digital Ministry by the end of June, Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo announced. The proposals aim to help shape a comprehensive governance framework for AI in Malaysia. Gobind stated that once the ministry receives the proposals, a Cabinet paper will be prepared for review. If approved, the process of drafting an AI bill will begin. This follows remarks from Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform), Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, who emphasized the need for AI-specific laws due to its unique nature compared to traditional technologies. She has proposed a meeting between the Legal Affairs Division and the Digital Ministry to begin discussions.
