An Air India flight from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick crashed into a medical college hostel shortly after takeoff, killing 241 of the 242 people onboard—only one survived. Additional casualties occurred in nearby hostels and residences, bringing the total death toll to 270.Due to the extent of the fire, many bodies were unidentifiable. DNA testing is underway, with 135 victims identified so far and 101 bodies handed over to families—5 of whom were not passengers on the flight.Tata Group has announced ₹1.25 crore compensation for each victim’s family.
