PARIS — French police are investigating a €130,000 staged wedding held at Disneyland Paris for a nine-year-old Ukrainian girl. Initially feared to be an illegal child marriage, it was later revealed as an elaborate event staged to make the girl "feel like a princess," according to her mother.
The so-called ceremony involved hired extras and took place before the park opened. Authorities detained four individuals, including a 22-year-old alleged British man believed to have organized the event, and a 24-year-old Latvian woman, now under investigation for fraud and money laundering.
The child was unharmed and not coerced. Disneyland Paris has filed a complaint after discovering false identity documents were used to book the venue.
