GEORGE TOWN — Two local youths, aged 19 and 20, have been remanded for three days after allegedly assaulting a policeman at the Penang police headquarters.

According to Northeast district police chief ACP Abdul Rozak Muhammad, the pair were acting suspiciously near the IPK entrance around 4.30pm yesterday. When detained for questioning, they reportedly punched the officer in the face and bit his chest.

Both suspects, believed to be intoxicated, also verbally abused the officer, who suffered a swollen eye and chest bruises. The case is being probed under Section 323 of the Penal Code and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act.
