PETALING JAYA — Malaysia recorded 203 bus accidents from January 2023 to May 2025, resulting in 39 deaths, 68 serious injuries, and 197 minor injuries, according to police.

Bukit Aman Traffic chief Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said key causes included driver fatigue, speeding, drug or alcohol use, and poor driving skills. Mechanical issues like brake failure, worn tyres, and faulty lights also played a role.

Some buses skipped proper checks due to pressure from operators rushing schedules. Poor road conditions, overcrowding, bad weather, and weak company oversight further contributed to the crashes.
