SEPANG — A group of 24 people, including 17 Malaysians, safely returned home last night after being evacuated from conflict-hit Iran, following a gruelling 1,000km land journey to the Iran–Turkmenistan border.
They arrived at KLIA at 11.03pm via Malaysia Airlines flight MH781, after transiting through Turkmenistan and Bangkok. The group also included six Iranian dependents of Malaysians and one Singaporean.
Led by Malaysia’s Ambassador to Iran, Khairi Omar, the evacuation was coordinated by Wisma Putra with help from embassies in Tehran, Ashgabat, and Bangkok. The mission was made possible through strong cooperation from the governments of Iran, Turkmenistan, and Thailand.
Twelve Malaysians remain in Iran under close monitoring. The Foreign Ministry praised the regional effort and reaffirmed its commitment to citizen safety under the Malaysia Madani framework, also highlighting support extended to ASEAN nationals, including a Bruneian and a Singaporean.
