KUALA LUMPUR: Careca made history on Friday with a lightning-fast strike that fired Terengganu to a thumping 5-0 win over DPMM in the Super League at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium.

The 30-year-old Brazilian needed just 10 seconds to open the scoring, making it one of the fastest goals ever recorded in Malaysian football.

For context, the all-time quickest remains Pengiran Bala's eight-second effort for Sarawak against Pahang in the 1989 Malaysia Cup, while Rafael Vitor's nine-second goal for Penang in 2021 still stands as the fastest in the Super League.

Careca's opener stunned the Brunei side before Uzbek playmaker Nurillo Tukhtasinov doubled the lead in the 16th minute.

As Terengganu went 2-0 up before the break, tempers flared when Careca and Baqiuddin Shamsudin were booked after a scuffle - the first two of five yellow cards on the night.

The second half brought more drama as VAR spotted a handball by Prosper Boakye Owusu.Careca converted the resulting penalty in the 74th minute for his brace before French striker Yann Mabella struck in the 86th minute, continuing his fine run with three goals in four matches.

Substitute Syahmi Zamri wrapped things up with a stoppage-time effort as the Turtles racked up 10 goals in just three league outings this season.

Badrul Afzan Razali's side now turn their attention to a high-profile clash against Selangor at the MBPJ Stadium on Wednesday.
