Babalwa Latsha is breaking boundaries both on and off the rugby field. The 31-year-old Springboks prop helped South Africa make history by reaching the knockout stages of the Women’s Rugby World Cup for the first time but her mission goes far beyond sport. Growing up in Khayelitsha, Latsha knows the harsh realities of period poverty and is now campaigning to end it across South Africa. As a director of the MENstruation Foundation, she’s working to provide free, dignified access to sanitary products for the millions who can’t afford them. “I know the desperation,” she told BBC Newsday, recalling the discomfort faced by girls in both daily life and competitive sport. With eight million South African women affected, Latsha is determined to restore dignity and create lasting change.
